A Northern California man who drove 51 miles with his wife clinging to the hood of his minivan has pleaded guilty and agreed to be sentenced to five years in prison.
Christopher Carroll entered the plea to attempted murder and spousal abuse charges Wednesday as part of a deal with prosecutors, who downgraded the murder charge to say Carroll's actions were not premeditated.
Carroll was arrested after the February incident, which authorities say stemmed from an argument. Carroll's wife stood in front of the van as he tried to drive away.

Adele Edwards, of Bradenton, Florida, has been eating the foam inside couch cushions for 21 years.

A MAN was found dead in his apartment draped in spider webs and more than 200 spiders, several snakes, thousands of termites, and a gecko were feasting on his corpse.

Mark Voegel, 30, was found dead in Dortmund, Germany.

Authorities were alerted when concerned neighbours noticed a horrendous stench emanating from the apartment.
His black widow, Bettina, is believed to have administered the deadly bite.

Voeger's apartment has been described as both a "zoo" and a "jungle" by authorities. He never let people visit.

Headless Ghost Forces Theme Park To Move Ride

Bosses at a British theme park were forced to move a new ride after workers reported seeing what appeared to be a headless monk, Sky News reported Monday.

Staff building the ride at Thorpe Park, near London, encountered several strange phenomena, including the ghost and reports of objects being moved.

A paranormal detection agency called in by park bosses to carry out tests found that an ancient burial ground or settlement could have been disturbed.

Managers at the theme park decided to relocate the ride to another area and also called in a forensic team to carry out further investigations.

The ride, named "Storm Surge," was originally meant to have been built in an area on the site known as Monk's Walk. The old footpath has linked the ruins of nearby Chertsey Abbey to Thorpe Church since the year 666 AD.

The ride's foundations would have been over 49 feet deep in an area of the park where stone coffins were previously excavated.

Huang Yuanfan, 84, of Ziyuan, China, is the latest person to report an unusual growth protruding from the head. His horn began growing two years ago and has reached a length of 3 inches, according to Metro.co.uk and other British news sites.

When it began as a small bump, Huang said he tried picking at it and even filing it, but the horn persevered and kept growing.

Japanese scientists have produced a mouse that tweets like a bird in a genetically engineered "evolution" which they hope will shed light on the origins of human language.

A team of researchers at the University of Osaka created the animal in their "Evolved Mouse Project", in which they use genetically modified mice that are prone to miscopying DNA and thus to mutations.

"Mutations are the driving force of evolution. We have cross-bred the genetically modified mice for generations to see what would happen," lead researcher Arikuni Uchimura told AFP.

For decades conspiracy theorists have argued that big corporations and the government are poisoning the world’s food supply to control the population. With so many deaths in the United States and all over the world coming from food alone, it’s hard to argue.
It’s unlikely that the corporations are actually poisoning the food, though. More likely, they are cutting all the costs possible.
Genetically modified food, or crops that have had their genetic code altered to prevent pest or climate damage (90% of which comes from food giant Monsanto) make up the majority of the crops grown in the United States.
If you check the ingredients label you’ll see that most of the things we eat are hardly food but actually food-like substances meant to mimic the taste and texture of real food.
If you see the conditions in which our beef and chicken is raised and how much pharmaceuticals the animals are pumped full of to prevent disease (only to cause disease), most will never bite into a burger again.
Monsanto and most food companies are known for cutting all of the corners that they can and make as much money as possible off of products that are hardly safe and “regulated” by former Monsanto workers that make up the FDA.

SHEBOYGAN, Wis. - A Wisconsin woman is accused of biting off her husband's tongue as he was giving her a good night kiss.

Sheboygan police say the man in his late 70s called authorities about 11 p.m. Monday, but was having trouble speaking. An ambulance was dispatched to the house.

Sgt. Terry Meyer says the husband and wife were singing Christmas carols when paramedics arrived. Meyer says the woman, in her late 50s, threw a coffee cup at them.

The man was taken to a Sheboygan hospital and then transferred to Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital in the Milwaukee area where he was to have his tongue reattached. Police say the man didn't want his wife arrested. But, she was taken into custody on possible charges of mayhem and domestic violence.

A woman dialled 999 to report a theft - of a snowman outside her house. Not a very n-ice thing to experience, we're sure you'll agree. However, police took a dim view of her 'emergency' call.

They said she'd reasoned that the matter warranted investigation because she'd used pound coins for the eyes and teaspoons for the arms.

Officers explained that they've 'spoken to' the woman, from Chatham, Kent, about what constitutes a real emergency.

Kent Police described the call as 'completely irresponsible', especially in light of the fact that the sub-zero conditions led to thousands of extra calls flooding their lines.

In the hope of clarifying the difference between a call that wastes police time and one that demands a response, a transcript of the snowman theft call has been issued.

In it, the woman tells the 999 operator: 'There's been a theft from outside my house.

'I haven't been out to check on him for five hours but I went outside for a fag and he's gone.'

EDMOND, OK -- Two women are arrested for shoplifting and police say they used their bodies to conceal the goods. Edmond police authorities say it was at the Edmond TJ Maxx that loss prevention officers found the duo stuffing items under their belly fat and breasts.

They say they took four pair of boots, three pair of jeans, a wallet and gloves; $2,600 worth of store merchandise.

Ailene Brown, 28, and 37-year-old Shmeco Thomas were arrested for shoplifting and are facing felony charges.

Officer James Hamm said, "These two were actually concealing them in areas of their body where excess skin was, under their chest area and armpits."

Police say Brown also had a knife in her purse they say she used to cut security tags in the store.

French firefighters freed a 69-year-old woman who spent three weeks trapped in her bathroom and whose pleas for help by tapping on pipes were ignored by neighbours, police said on Tuesday.

The woman emerged in a "very weakened" state when rescue workers, alerted by neighbours who were worried because they had not seen her for some time, broke into her home on Friday in the Paris suburb of Epinay-sous-Senart to extricate her.

She had got stuck after the bathroom door lock broke.

The woman, who is recuperating in hospital, survived by drinking warm water from the bathroom tap and at night-time tried to call for help by tapping on piping, police said.

Woman Goes In Hospital For Minor Procedure Comes Out With Both Legs Amputated

A simple surgery has turned into a living nightmare for a Brooklyn mom.

She was supposed to be in and out of the hospital on the same day. Instead, both her legs had to be amputated because of an alleged medical mishap and now she wants justice.

“It’s hard. Knowing before this happened, I was normal. I didn’t have anything — but, now, I won’t be able to walk unless I have prostheses,” Stacy Galette told CBS 2’s Pablo Guzman.

Galette went to Winthrop University Hospital in Mineola one year ago for what she said was supposed to be a minor gynecological procedure. However, something went wrong and both of her legs were amputated.

Galette said she’s been left with unimaginable anger.

“Knowing that I’m not the same person that I used to be. I’m not walking,” Galette said.

Mother and 10-year-old daughter are still close, in spite of everything. Galette claims that during surgery at Winthrop Hospital, her intestine was punctured, which ultimately led to gangrene and the amputation of both legs below the knees. On Thursday she and her lawyer filed suit against the hospital.

“It’s horrifying. She will have to use prostheses for the rest of her life, for a double below the knee amputation — because of medical malpractice!” attorney Sanford Rubinstein said.

Over the phone, a spokesman for the hospital told Guzman: “As a matter of policy, we don’t comment on pending litigation.”

Panic broke out at the Moruga Composite School yesterday as 17 female students fell mysteriously ill and began rolling on the ground, hissing and blabbering in a strange tongue, after suffering bouts of nausea and headaches. Two of the students reportedly tried to throw themselves off a railing and had to be physically restrained, triggering fears of a possible demon attack. The drama started during the lunch hour in the Form One block and quickly spread to other areas. Form Five student Kern Mollineau, who attends the Lighthouse Tabernacle Church, said he got worried when the girls’ eyes began rolling up in their heads and they began beating up on the ground.
With the assistance of several other students and teachers, the pupils were taken to the multi-purpose hall where some of them fell into a semi-conscious state. Mollineau recalled: “One girl was blabbering as if in a strange language. I could not understand what she was saying. “It was sounding like ‘shebbaberbebeb shhhhee.’ The girls were unusually strong. We had to hold them down so that they will not hurt themselves. “The teachers were right there. I get a kick in my face when one of the girls started beating up on the floor. Many of them had bruises.”

Self-Cloning Lizard Discovered On Dinner Plate

A new species of lizard was discovered in Vietnam - after being spotted on a dinner menu.

The previously undiscovered variety of lizard - Leiolepis ngovantrii - appears to be all-female and able to reproduce itself by cloning.

It was found after a Vietnamese reptile scientist came across tanks full of the similar looking reptiles at small diners in rural villages in Ba Ria-Vung Tau province.

Noticing they all appeared to be female, Ngo Van Tri called his friend; Californian herpetologist Dr. Lee Grismer, who immediately flew out to join the researcher.

Ngo organised for a local restaurant owner to set aside some of the creatures for study, but this plan didn't work out.

Grismer explained: "Unfortunately, the owner wound up getting drunk, and grilled them all up for his patrons. So when we got there, there was nothing left."

Luckily, they recruited some local children and other restaurateurs, who soon managed to catch them some 60 of the lizards for study - which was enough for them to conduct research into the species.

Grismer added: "It's an entirely new lineage of life that was being eaten and sold in restaurants for food. But it's something that scientists have missed for hundreds of years."

He also tried eating one, and said it's not likely they'll be making their way to western menus anytime soon.

Whether it's a washer, debris, ice particles, I don't know. But it's characteristic of the thousands of things which I've seen. What is not so characteristic is it appears to come from no where. You would think that if it's facing the dark side or facing a side towards you which is not reflecting the sun, you would think that you would see something there. It's really impressive."

British angler Jeremy Wade looks understandably anxious as he grapples with this ferocious-looking 'giant piranha'.
The 52-year-old caught the aptly-named goliath tigerfish during a fishing expedition up the Congo River in Africa.
The brave fisherman was forced to hold the fish at arms-length for fear of being bitten by its razor-sharp teeth while posing with it for the camera.
The goliath tigerfish is one of the most fearsome freshwater fish in the world and said to be a much bigger and deadlier version of the piranha.
The giant fish has 32 teeth that are of similar size to those of a great white shark and has been known to attack humans and even crocodiles.

Police in Florida say they arrested a man on suspicion of driving drunk while impersonating a police officer on Oct. 14.

According to the Sun-Sentinel.com, police in Boca Raton believe Andrew Novotak was dressed like a cop with a police-style badge and a loaded Glock 9 mm handgun in a waist holster when he pulled over several motorists to ask if they had drugs or alcohol in their cars.
The phony cop was driving a white Ford Crown Victoria with dark tinted windows, similar to what police officers drive nationwide," police spokesman Mark Economou told the press.
But unlike real police officers, the flashing lights on Novotak's vehicle were green -- not red and blue, according to CBS4.
A motorist notified authorities, and when police arrived on the scene they reportedly found Novotak in his car, with his green lights flashing.

Herd of Mountain Goats Casually Climb Near-Vertical 160ft Dam

At first look you could be forgiven for thinking this photo of the Cingino dam in the Italian Alps is unremarkable, but for the feat of civil engineering it represents.

However, look a bit closer and you might feel like a bit of a silly billy for not realising those specks on its sheer 160ft face are something altogether more amazing. These incredible pictures show Alpine Ibex goats wandering across the face of the near-vertical dam in Northern Italy without a care in the world.

The gravity-defying goats typically live in very steep and rocky terrain at altitudes of up to to 4,600m and have no fear of falling whether climbing up or down the 160ft dam wall.

And they aren't doing it just to show off.

It is thought the goats are actually grazing, licking the stones for their salts.

My answer: Gradually over time. 35 years ago, McDonalds served real hamburgers on real bread. Their milk shakes were made with real milk and sugar... but as their corporation grew (and the complexity of running so many restaurants increased), they had to rely on more efficient means to deliver their products.

Roy Cleveland Sullivan was born in 1912. During his 36 years as a park ranger, Sullivan, of Waynesboro, Virginia, was struck by lightning seven times. In 1942, he lost a big toenail to lightning. In 1969, his eyebrows were blown off. His left shoulder was seared in 1970 and his hair set on fire in 1972. In August 1973, he was out driving when a bolt hit him on the head through his hat, set his hair on fire again, threw him 10ft out of his car and knocked his left shoe off. In 1983, he shot himself.

A mysterious shiny object floating high over Manhattan's West Side set off a flurry of reports and wild speculation Wednesday that a UFO was flying over the city.
Police and the FAA said they began getting flooded with calls starting at 1:30 p.m. from people reporting a silvery object hovering high over Chelsea.
Law enforcement sources said they believed the object was likely some sort of balloon, but as of late Wednesday they had not confirmed exactly what it is.
A Daily News reporter could see a tiny, silver dot floating approximately 5,000 feet above 23th St. and Eighth Ave., where dozens of people gathered late in the afternoon to catch a glimpse.

A teenager from Winnipeg was surprised when a goose which was flying low, hit him and knocked him off his skateboard. Police said Tuesday that the woman, whose name has not been released, admitted tossing doggie dung at the driver because she believed he was speeding.
Belmont Lt. Rick Santangelo said the woman initially contacted police last week and reported that she was walking her dog when she saw the motorist nearly hit a man on a bicycle.
Santangelo said the man contacted police the next day to report being struck in the face with dog feces.
The woman was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, vandalism to property and disorderly conduct.
No arraignment date has been set.

Sean Alivera, 31, and Christopher Luciano, 23, allegedly robbed a supposed drug dealer of 20 pounds of marijuana with a street value of $24,000 as well as $3,000 in cash. It turns out that the man they thought was a drug dealer was actually an undercover officer.

Authorities also believe that the two planned to have the drugs redistributed on the street by an un-named drug dealer.

KOKOMO, Ind. -- Police said a Kokomo man accidentally shot himself in the genitals as he robbed a convenience store early Tuesday.
Kokomo police said they were called to a Village Pantry store at 100 N. Ohio St. at about 4:20 a.m. after a clerk at the store called them.The female clerk told police that a man came into the store with a semiautomatic handgun, grabbed her hair and demanded cash and cigarettes before handing her a white cloth bag.
The clerk said that as she retrieved the cigarettes she heard a gunshot and turned to confront the man, who yelled that he had shot himself.
"The bullet traveled through his right testicle ... and then into the bottom part of his leg," Kokomo police Lt. Don Whitehead said.Police said the man, whom they identified as 25-year-old Derrick Kosch, grabbed the bag full of cash and fled the store.In-store surveillance cameras showed that Kosch shot himself as he placed the gun into the waistband of his pants, police said.

It appears residents in Broward County have their definitions for "nonsense" and "emergency" mixed up.

According to the Broward Sheriff's Office call center, nearly half the 911 calls they receive are for things not quite a life or death situation - unless you consider a fast food order an emergency.

To paraphrase the immortal words of Flavor Flav, 911 callers are a joke in this town.

"My toilet's overflowing, what do I do? That's my personal favorite," BSO Sheriff Al Lamberti said.

While it's a stretch, a busted toilet at least could, conceivably, be considered an emergency. But there is no rationale for the number calls that sound something like this:

"I ordered chicken nuggets and they don't have chicken nuggets," one woman called 911 to report.

The fast food offenses are usually the most common and often the most annoying because people think it's really an emergency worthy of 911, one operator said.

"Screaming in my ear, 'I wanted the sausage, and he gave me the burrito!'" April McGill recalls from one call. "She's trying to force me to eat something off the menu that I don't want!"

The penal code hasn't quite addressed customer service in the fast food industry, but that hasn't stopped Broward residents from picking up the phone and calling the police. People have asked for police escorts, rides to the liquor store and instructions on how to make meatballs.

One woman even called to ask what day it was.

Meanwhile, real emergencies can suffer from an influx of foolish calls. Occasionally, the police do show up to help. Well, help that person into a pair of handcuffs and a jail cell.

Lamberti said there is a pretty easy rule to follow if you aren't sure if 911 is the right call for you.

"If it involves your toilet or your turkey that's a no-no," he said.

Or as one operator put it, "911 is if you're dying. Do you understand that?"

Dead Teen's Classmates Discover His Brain in Jar

A Staten Island couple is suing New York City after the shocking discovery that their dead son's brain was on display in a jar at a city morgue.

Jesse Shipley was 17 when he died in a car crash in 2005.

Andre and Korisha Shipley said they had no idea his brain was removed during an autopsy until some of the teen's classmates at Port Richmond High School visited a morgue on a field trip.
While on the tour, the kids, who were members of a forensic science club, came across a jar with a brain floating inside and their dead friend's name on the label.

The family's lawyer, Marvin Ben-Aron, told the New York Post that the sight left the kids "shaking and upset."

Pig Learns To Walk On Two Legs

The 10-month-old porker is known by villagers as "Zhu Jianqiang" (Strong-willed Pig) after it was born with only two front legs and learned to balance on them well enough to walk.

According to its owner, Wang Xihai, it was one of nine piglets born in a litter this January.

He said: "My wife asked me to dump it but I refused as it's a life. I thought I should give it a chance to survive and unexpectedly it survived healthy."

Several days after its birth Wang decided to train the two-legged piglet to walk by lifting it up by its tail.

He said: "I trained her for a while each day. After 30 days she can now walk upside down quite well."

Wang said since the birth of the pig, which currently weighs 50kg (110lbs), his home has been besieged by visitors.

A circus even offered to buy for the pig for a large sum but Wang refused to sell.

He said "She proved to us that no matter what form life is it should continue to live on. I won't sell it no matter how much the offer is."

Richard Davies, 29, from Thornaby, near Stockton, had been drinking with friends before the alcohol knocked him unconscious in January.

Mr Davies was found not breathing in a pool of his own blood, and died hours later.

Recording a verdict of misadventure, Teesside coroner Tony Eastwood said the alcohol in his system had killed him.

A 29-year-old tire repairman from northeastern Brazil is recovering after doctors removed a 10-centimetre blade that has been stuck in the front of his head for three years after a bar fight.
Edeilson Nascimento told the local Terra news agency that doctors previously told him not to take the knife out because it could cause further damage including lesions in the brain stem which could result in death. "In three years I felt bad headaches every day of my life from the time I woke up until bedtime," he told Terra news. "So I stopped working."
A team of seven people, including three neurosurgeons, from the hospital at the Federal University of Pernambuco removed the knife without causing further harm over the course of a three-hour surgery on Tuesday. Nascimento is expected to be released from Recife hospital next week.

DODGE CITY, Kan. (AP) - An Arkansas man got a frightening look at frontier justice when he passed out with a display noose around his head during a trip to a Wild West-themed Kansas museum, officials said.

Police in Dodge City, Kan., have declined to release the name of the 69-year-old visitor from Parks, Ark. They said he lost consciousness Wednesday and slumped in the "Hanging Tree" noose display at the Boot Hill Museum.

Museum director Lara Brehm said museum staff and two women he was with helped remove the man from the noose, and that he regained consciousness before being taken to a hospital.

The noose usually hangs 15 feet in the air, and the museum doesn't know how it came to be hanging low enough for a visitor to reach it, Brehm said. It was hanging in its proper place when the museum closed the night before the incident, she said.

"From what we understand he was using it as a photo opportunity," Brehm said. "We don't know for sure how it came to be where anybody could reach it."

Brehm said it was unclear why the man passed out, and that his feet remained on the ground.

"It was not a hanging in the sense that we use that word," she said.

Brehm said the man remained in stable condition Thursday at a Wichita hospital. She said he had pre-existing conditions that warranted the move to Wichita.

The noose had been hanging where it was since the museum opened 63 years ago without incident, Brehm said. It has been taken down, and officials had not decided another would be put back up.

"We'll make the appropriate decision when we figure out what happened," she said.

Manitoban Janis Ollson and family are in magazine ads for the esteemed Mayo Clinic for a very good reason: she's the first person surgeons cut in half, removed much of a cancerous midsection, then put back together with a happy ending.

On Friday, the Balmoral, Man., woman was at her daughter's school to talk to students about Sunday's Terry Fox Run, and how funds raised for cancer research are keeping people like her alive.

Three years ago, the 31-year-old was pregnant with her second child and had been suffering years of horrible back pain when Canadian doctors diagnosed her with bone cancer, chondrosarcoma.

Sarcoma experts in Toronto said they'd literally have to cut her in half to get at the untreatable cancer, remove her leg, lower spine and half her pelvis.

The problem was they didn't know how to put her back together again.

They certainly didn't know how she would have a decent quality of life. They consulted with the Mayo Clinic and the Rochester, Minn., doctors decided to try something new.

Ollson became the first person to receive a "pogo stick" rebuild, with her one good leg fused to her body with the reshaped bone from the amputated leg.

MADRID - A Spanish man calmly drank beer with his mates in a bar with his murdered girlfriend's head in a bag, press reports said Tuesday.
After leaving the bar on Sunday, the 34-year-old climbed an electrical tower, was hit by a shock and plunged 30 metres (100 feet) to the ground, dying that evening in hospital, they said.
According to a report in the ABC daily newspaper, citing witnesses, the man told friends in the bar in Cordoba, southern Spain, that he had decapitated his 30-year-old partner.

EVERETT, Wash. — Prosecutors in Washington state say an 18-year-old woman stabbed a 19-year-old man for teasing her that her feet smelled. The Herald of Everett reported the man was found by police with a steak knife sticking out of his back, buried a few inches in. His lung had collapsed. Officials said he'll recover.

Charging papers said trouble started when Dallas Amber Smith was drinking and hanging out with friends and was challenged to do a back flip. When she took off her shoes to do the back flip, the teasing started.
Smith had no criminal history. She faces charges of second-degree assault with a deadly weapon.
Smith's attorney, Dave Allen of Seattle, declined to comment on the case Friday, saying he'd do that in court.

Teen Accidentally Texts Sheriff For Pot

If you're going to text your drug dealer, make sure you've got the correct number.

That's a lesson a teenage boy in Helena, Montana, learned the hard way.

Instead of sending a text message to his dealer, police say he sent one to Lewis and Clark County Sheriff Leo Dutton.

Police said the text read: “Hey Dawg, do you have a $20 I can buy right now?”

Dutton told the Helena Independent Record he thought it was just a joke at first.

“I was looking around to see if there was someone outside my window playing a prank.”

When it seemed clear he'd received an inadvertent text, he decided to play along. He said he told the teen to meet him at a local business.

When police showed up, they found two teens and an older man. Detectives called the teens over and flashed their badges. Police told the Recorder both kids turned white, and one of them fainted.

But in the end, the kids got off with a slap on the wrist. No charges were laid.

“When the detective saw there were parents that wanted to be involved he took the right action and I’m really proud of the deputy,” Dutton said.

“Trying to buy drugs is a crime, but it’s probably worse that they had to face their parents.”

Sheriff Shoots Deer 17 Times?

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A sheriff's deputy in Gainesville had to fire 17 shots to put down a deer hit by a car. The Alachua sheriff's department said the deputy was "horrified" by what happened Wednesday, and would be referred to a victim advocate.
The deputy didn't know where to shoot the animal, so he called a superior. The sergeant said to aim for the heart, behind the deer's shoulder. Instead, the deputy fired repeatedly into the stomach until the animal died.
The sheriff's department said the deputy did nothing wrong and won't be reprimanded. They now plan to train patrol staff to quickly kill a distressed animal that can't be saved, The Gainesville Sun reported.

A man from London, England has been sentenced to three years in prison after killing his wife by hitting her in the head with a television remote control. The trial was held in the Old Bailey, a famous court in London.

The court heard how 46-year-old electrical engineer Paul Harvey was arguing with 48-year-old American wife Gloria Laguna on topics relating to the man's step-daughter's education and his former wife. At the time, both husband and wife had consumed alcohol and cocaine.

When Paul threw the remote control, which weighed 160 grams, at Gloria, neither were aware of the fact that Gloria suffered from an extremely rare health condition which meant that an artery in her neck was weak. The remote control hit the area, causing Gloria to have a large brain haemorrhage. Paul attempted to give his wife the kiss of life, however he was unsuccessful and she later died from her injuries. Paul pleaded guilty to manslaughter in March of this year.

Johnathan Goldberg QC, who was defending Paul Harvey, said: "All he did was throw the remote control in her direction. By a fluke chance, maybe the same as, in a different context, winning the lottery, it landed on the exact spot where she had a weakness. He loved this woman very much. She was obviously a very fine woman who gave up her work for him. He is deeply ashamed and remorseful at the death of his wife at his hand."

Prosecuting was Richard Whittam QC. He said: "It would only have required a trivial incident to cause her death."

When sentencing Mr. Harvey, Judge Giles Forrester spoke to him. "You killed your wife, who was rightly been described by your counsel as a fine woman," he said. "You have this streak of anger and violence within your character that does surface from time to time."

The Daily Telegraph reports that at precisely 1:13 p.m. (or 13:13), an ambulance in the county of Suffolk in east England attended to a 13-year-old boy that was struck by lightning on Friday 13th.

The unidentified teen was taken to hospital where country ambulance officer Jason Gillingham told the paper, "This was a very minor burn to the boy's shoulder, but he was conveyed to hospital and is recovering well."

A 54-year-old carpenter in Wantage, England, accidentally cut off his own penis while working with a saw, his mother says.
Stuart Keen's mother, Edna, told The Sunday Telegraph her son had been cutting wood for a cabinet when the saw inflicted the horrific injury. Surgeons were able to reattach the severed appendage, she said.
"Stuart is a carpenter and uses sharp and sometimes dangerous tools," Keen's mother said.

Motorcyclist Steven Nixon suffered a massive heart attack when he was in collision with a car in Husbands Bosworth, Leicestershire, last year.

Paramedics at the scene revived his heart five times before he was airlifted to University Hospital in Coventry, where a team of cardiologists saved him a further 23 times.

The 44-year-old former warehouse manager also sustained a fractured skull, broken bones in his back, nerve damage and a broken right arm in the collision.

But medics in Coventry were unable to treat his injuries without first stabilising his heart, so he immediately underwent a procedure which involved taking a series of photographs of his heart to pinpoint the problem.

ATLANTA — A Georgia woman said a weekend outing turned into a horrifying experience when her young grandson developed blisters after he found a used condom in their hotel room and put it in his mouth, myFOXdfw.com reported.
According to Carmen Jones, the incident happened on Aug. 1 at the Wyndham Gardens hotel in downtown Atlanta, where she had taken the boy and his cousin for a weekend of family fun.
Jones said at first glance room 329 looked perfectly clean, except that there was no soap and no towels.
The next morning, Jones said, she awoke to a horrifying scene.
"When I looked at my grandson, he had a used condom all down his throat — his tongue in it everything. And there was semen in the condom," she said.
Jones immediately took the condom out of the boy's mouth and called hotel management., she said.
Days later the child developed a fever, Jones said.
"That's when I had seen the open blisters inside of his mouth, inside of the bottom lip, all on his tongue," Jones said.
The boy is being tested for STDs and HIV but Jones' attorney said the family is awaiting the results before deciding how to proceed.

VIENNA - A paralyzed Austrian man was eaten to death by maggots in his bed while his partner slept beside him, police said Wednesday.
The 61-year-old retiree died in an ambulance on his way to hospital in Vienna on Tuesday with the maggots having partly devoured his back.
Paramedics notified police after discovering the shocking state of hygiene in the man's home, and his 34-year-old partner was questioned over his condition.
"The man had not wanted to be washed for a long time," a police spokesman said.
According to police, the couple had been together for around a decade, and the victim's partner had slept in the same bed right up until his death.

The kitten known as Two Face brought the animal to the vet shortly after it was born on Wednesday because its mother refused to nurse the kitten. Dr. Erica Drake said the kitten was born with a rare condition called diprosopus, which means the kitten literally has two faces. Two Face has four eyes, two noses and two mouths.
Drake said the kitten's two mouths act independently and she believes each mouth has a separate esophagus leading to one stomach. It'll take a closer look at the kitten's internal anatomy before known about how the kitten will be able to function.

CLEVELAND – Police say a motorist fleeing officers in Cleveland abandoned his car and jumped a fence — landing in what turned out to be a prison yard.
Garfield Heights police say the chase started in that suburb early Monday over a traffic violation and reached speeds of 90 mph.
Police say that after a race through several communities, the driver and a passenger bolted from the car and headed for a fence.
They apparently did not realize it was on the outside of the state women's prison in Cleveland.
They were arrested along with two other passengers who also tried to flee.

Body of woman missing since January found in bed frame

The body of a woman missing since January was found Monday in the metal frame of a hotel bed, Memphis police said today. The room had been rented at least five times since her disappearance.

Sony Millbrook, 28, was found after a foul odor was reported coming from the room at Budget Lodge, 1533 E. Brooks. Her body was apparently stashed inside the metal box frame that sits directly on the floor. The box springs and mattress sit inside the metal frame.

The room had been cleaned by hotel staff numerous times since Millbrook was reported missing on Jan. 27 by her family when she didn’t pick up her children from school. The family checked the hotel where she had been living. The family said no one was in the room. The family returned to the room that day and Jan. 28 to box up and remove her personal items.

100 Year Old Woman Grows A Horn

A 101-year-old woman has grown a horn on her head - and now fears she's growing another one.

Zhang Ruifang, of Linlou village, in central China's Henan province, noticed a small lump on her forehead last year.

But it is now six centimetres long - and a small lump has now appeared on the other side of her forehead.

Her youngest son, Zhang Guozheng, 60, said the horn started as a patch of thick, rough skin on the left side of her forehead.

"We didn't pay too much attention to it at first," he said. "But as time went on it just grew and grew.

"And now there is something growing on the right side of her forehead and it seems quite possible that it's another horn."

Zhang has seven children - six boys and a girl - and many grandchildren. Her eldest son is 82-years-old.

The family live in a rural area and don't have the money to send her to hospital - but they say she is in no pain and enjoys a peaceful life.

A mystery 'Halo' cloud has appeared in the skies over Mexico, resulting in speculation of a UFO visit to the central American state.

The circular cloud was captured by an amateur cameraman above Mexico on February 11, and the video comments on YouTube suggest that it could be a hole punched in the sky by an alien craft.
It isn't the first time such a cloud formation has been spotted, after a similar mystery 'Halo' formation was spotted in the skies over Moscow late last year.

Some internet UFO enthusiasts have maintained that the cloud is absolute proof of a UFO visit, while others think it may be a porthole through which alien ships could enter the Earth's atmosphere.

Even the Met Office has been left baffled by the mystery cloud, or its causes, with spokeswoman Sarah Holland stating: "Aircraft exhausts could play a part in the freezing process but the precise cause is unknown."

Some believe that the phenomenon in Mexico can be explained as a result of a meteorite punching through the cloud layer. UFO expert Nick Pope adds "The similarity with the so-called Halo cloud seen recently over Russia is striking. One possibility is that a meteorite or fireball punched through the cloud.

"This could explain the strange sound reported and the fact that a crater was apparently found."

DENVER -- A Silt, Colo., man made an amazing discovery this week: a coyote frozen solid in its tracks, standing upright next to a road near his home.
Seth Wettlin told TheDenverChannel.com that he ran out of gas on the way home Wednesday night and saw the coyote caught in his headlights on a dirt road, south of Silt.
At first, Wettlin thought it was frozen in fear, but upon closer inspection, he found it was literally frozen solid. The dead animal was standing in snow up to its chest, with its tongue hanging out.

WISE COUNTY -- Animal experts are baffled by a small, hairless creature found dead on the golf course at Runaway Bay in Wise County.
Maintenance worker Tony Potter picked it up Wednesday morning. To him it looked a little like a raccoon with no hair.
"Definitely not a dog," he said.
Potter showed the remains to several people and then took it to a veterinarian's office in Bridgeport. He said no one there could identify it, either.
"My wife wouldn't let me keep it in the freezer," he said, so Potter gave it to the Center for Animal Research and Education, a big cat sanctuary in Bridgeport.

As the dieters queued to see how many pounds they had shed, the floor beneath them in the clinic in Växjö, in south-central Sweden, began to rumble, according to a report in The Local, Sweden's English-language newspaper.
"We suddenly heard a huge thud; we almost thought it was an earthquake and everything flew up in the air.

"The floor collapsed in one corner of the room and along the walls," one Weight Watchers participant told the Smålandsposten newspaper.

A SHEEP gave birth to a dead lamb with a human-like face. The lamb was born in a village not far from the city of Izmir, Turkey.

Erhan Elibol, a vet, performed a caesarean on the animal to take the lamb out, but was horrified to see that the features of the lamb's snout bore a striking resemblance to a human face.

“I’ve seen mutations with cows and sheep before. I’ve seen a one-eyed calf, a two-headed calf, a five-legged calf. But when I saw this youngster I could not believe my eyes. His mother could not deliver him so I had to help the animal,” the 29-year-old veterinary said.

The lamb’s head had human features on – the eyes, the nose and the mouth – only the ears were those of a sheep.

Abel Aguirre, 38, of Chelsea was convicted yesterday of animal cruelty for having sex with his roommate’s rabbit, the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office said. He faces up to 2 years in the House of Correction and a $2,500 fine at sentencing today.

Aguirre assaulted the rabbit June 1, 2008, district attorney spokesman Jake Wark said. Aguirre’s roommate told investigators she came home and found blood and clumps of rabbit fur on the bathroom floor and a claw belonging to the bunny. In Aguirre’s room, she found a used condom with rabbit fur on it. The rabbit was injured and bleeding.

CHICAGO - A Chicago man could be unwrapping the hundreds of Christmas gifts spread around his apartment for days, even weeks.
Trouble is, they aren't really presents. They're his own belongings meticulously wrapped by friends as a prank while he was out of town.
Louie Saunders' packages contain everything from couch cushions to the beer in his refrigerator.
His friend Adal Rifai masterminded the scheme after Saunders gave him a spare key. It took 16 people, 35 rolls of wrapping paper and eight hours to finish the job.
Saunders tells the Chicago Sun-Times he's only been able to unwrap about 10 per cent of the packages.

He jokes that the upside is that, with each package he unwraps, he finds something inside that's just what he needs.

An aide to Councilwoman Charleta Tavares says she has received more than 20 calls. Councilman Andrew Ginther says if police are making the comments, they're neither acceptable nor appropriate, though he says he believes most officers want to be helpful.
A police spokesman says the department addresses the complaints when it's given the name of an officer.

AN African village is reportedly shellshocked after the birth of a bizarre faun-like creature said to have the combined features of a man and a goat.

Bild reports the creature, which died just a few hours after birth in Lower Gweru, Zimbabwe, had a huge head and face which resembled a human, as well as goat legs and a tail.

Dean Qiongxiu, 66, said she discovered the reptile clinging to the wall of her bedroom with its talons in the middle of the night.

"I woke up and heard a strange scratching sound. I turned on the light and saw this monster working its way along the wall using his claw," said Mrs Duan of Suining, southwest China.

Mrs Duan said she was so scared she grabbed a shoe and beat the snake to death before preserving its body in a bottle of alcohol.

The snake – 16 inches long and the thickness of a little finger – is now being studied at the Life Sciences Department at China's West Normal University in Nanchang.

Snake expert Long Shuai said: "It is truly shocking but we won't know the cause until we've conducted an autopsy."

A more common mutation among snakes is the growth of a second head, which occurs in a similar way to the formation of Siamese twins in humans.

Such animals are often caught and preserved as lucky tokens but have very little chance of surviving in the wild anyway, especially as the heads have a tendency to attack each other.

A suspect is in police custody after the indecent assault of a handicapped man in a Paoli restroom in August.

Investigators in Chester County say they apprehended a suspect who allegedly raped a wheelchair-bound man in a supermarket bathroom.

Investigators said they arrested suspect Brian Parks Thursday evening at a Center City homeless shelter in connection to the August 8 incident.

According to investigators, the 54-year-old Parks stands accused of raping a man who was confined to a wheelchair inside the bathroom of a Paoli ACME.

"We feel totally comfortable that this is the individual who is responsible for the heinous crime at the ACME," Sgt. Jack Bailey of the Tredyffrin Police Department explained.

BEIJING — A woman in eastern China was allegedly beaten to death by five employees of a Wal-Mart store who accused her of shoplifting, a police report and state media said Tuesday.

Police have arrested two employees from the store in Jiangxi province, while three others are being investigated, Jingdezhen city police said in a report on their website.

According to the report, the woman was beaten outside her home near the Wal-Mart on August 30 and died in a city hospital on Wednesday last week from injuries suffered during the beating.

Police said the five Wal-Mart employees had stopped the woman in the street and demanded to see her receipt, but she refused because she could not verify their identities, it said.

Following an argument, the five Wal-Mart employees began beating her, it said.

The English-language China Daily on Tuesday identified the victim as Yu Xiaochun, 37.

"They started to hit her because she didn't do what they said," the paper quoted her husband Chen Baolin as saying.

"I got there and tried to stop them but they kept beating her."

It was not immediately known if the woman had shoplifted, the paper said.

A five-year-old girl is recovering from puncture wounds today after a seal pulled her into the water at West Vancouver's Thunderbird Marina yesterday evening.

North Vancouver resident Caleigh Cunning, 5, was with her father on the marina dock at about 6 p.m.after a fishing trip.

Her father Mike Cunning was cleaning fish, when a seal jumped onto the dock and pulled the girl under water, according to marina manager Fred McDonald.

Caleigh was wearing a lifejacket.

A neighbour on the dock jumped in and saved her, he said.

Caleigh suffered puncture wounds to her wrist, was treated at hospital and released.

Russian Scientists Photograph Souls

The activity of Konstantin Korotkov, deputy director of the St. Petersburg Research Institute of Physical Culture and world-renowned authority on Kirlian photography, was recently highlighted by Life.ru. Korotkov is the developer of the gas-discharge visualization (GDV) technique in Kirlian photography.

Kirlian photography takes its name from Soviet electrician Semyon Kirlian, who discovered the process in 1939. It was the subject of extensive research in the 1970s in the Soviet Union and the West. It is commonly described as photographing an object’s aura. According to a website associated with Korotkov, he “confirmed earlier observations… that the stimulated electro-photonic glow around human fingertips contained astonishingly coherent and comprehensive information about the human state – both physiological and psychological.”

In other words, the GDV technique, which was developed in the late 1990s, can be used for diagnostic and assessment purposes. It is already used to measure stress and monitor the progress of medical treatments. In its most sophisticated form, the GDV technique is incorporated with computer imaging.

Now scientists have taken GDV photographs of a person as he was dying. In the photos, it could be seen that the area of the belly lost its life force (the purported soul) first, followed by the head. The heart and groin were the last to lose their life force, in that order.

Scientists using the GDV technique say that the aura of those who die unexpectedly or violently differs from those who experience a calm death. The souls of the former remain in a state of confusion for several days and return frequently to their bodies, especially at night. Korotkov ascribes that phenomenon to unused energy retained by the soul. He suggests that the GDV technique will also have applications for distinguishing genuine psychics from frauds.

MIAMI (AP) - A woman set herself on fire at a Miami mall Thursday, then walked around engulfed in flames as shocked shoppers watched, authorities said.

Two men and a woman who tried to help her were hurt, but not badly.

The 43-year-old woman, whose name was not released, doused herself with a flammable liquid at the Mall of the Americas, said Miami-Dade Fire Rescue spokesman Arnold Piedrahita. She had third-degree burns over 75 percent of her body and was found conscious in a parking lot. Authorities do not know why she set herself on fire.

She was air-lifted to a hospital.

Witnesses said she was in a clothing store called Savage Boutique when it happened. Jose Morales, 24, said he was about to pay for earrings for his girlfriend at a nearby kiosk when he heard screams and thought someone had fallen.

When he turned around, he saw the blaze and realized someone was within it.

"This woman is just walking like this, super slow, completely on fire," Morales said, his arms stretched out at his side to show what the woman looked like as she walked out of the store. "You couldn't see nothing but fire."

Morales said witnesses used two fire extinguishers on the woman, who was on fire about two-and-a-half minutes. All of her clothes except her underwear disappeared into ashes.

After the fire was out, Morales said, the woman walked out of the mall and into the parking lot.

The two men injured helping her were treated at the scene while the woman who helped was taken to a hospital.

The mall remained closed as of late afternoon.

Vicious Dogs Keep Mountain Lion at Bay

Tina Lee Spray, 23, said she was awakened Saturday morning
by the sound of her three chihuahuas barking at the top of
their tiny lungs at the opening of her garage.

Spray said she looked out her daughter's window to investi-
gate the ruckus and was shocked to see her gang of 3-pound
dogs had cornered an angry-looking cougar in the garage.

The homeowner said the chihuahuas' barking kept the animal,
which appeared to be foaming at the mouth, at bay for 45
minutes until Riverside County Sheriff's deputies arrived.

"When they saw the dogs they said 'These little things?'
When they saw the mountain lion their jaws dropped," Spray
said. "They radioed, 'This is a full-size mountain lion and
it is not happy to see us.'"

Spray said the cougar made a run for it after officers from
the Department of Fish and Game shot it with tranquilizers
and she did not see the eventual capture.

Dwarf gets Penis stuck in Vacuum

"A dwarf performer at the Edinburgh Fringe festival had to be rushed to hospital after his penis got stuck to a vacuum cleaner during an act that went horribly awry.

"The main part of his act saw him appear on stage with a vacuum cleaner attached to his member through a special attachment.

"The attachment broke before the performance and Blackner tried to fix it using extra-strong glue, but unfortunately only let it dry for 20 seconds instead of the 20 minutes required."

Body won't fit in casket: Cut off legs!

The South Carolina funeral board revoked the licenses of an Allendale funeral home and funeral director accused of cutting off the legs of a man too tall for his casket.

The Board of Funeral Service voted Monday to revoke the funeral director Michael Cave’s license and the license of Cave Funeral Services of Allendale after months of investigation.

According a document released by the South Carolina Department Of Labor and Licensing, a funeral home employee used an electric saw to cut off James Hines’ lower legs so he would fit in a casket that he was too tall for.

The body of James Hines was exhumed back in March after investigators acted on a tip that Hines legs were cut off in 2004 when he was buried.

The family requested a larger casket because Hines was 6’7” and couldn’t fit in a normal casket.

A former employee of Cave Funeral Services says Hines was too tall for the casket he paid for before his death and said the funeral home didn’t want to pay for a larger casket.

Hines’ widow, Ann, says the family is somewhat relieved the funeral home has been shutdown and the director’s license revoked, but they still wonder why it happened to their loved one.

For the first time since the rumors began almost five years ago, Ann says Cave Funeral Services apologized to her and the family for all they’ve had to go through.

The Board of Funeral Services fined Cave for the violation and he must also pay $1,500 for the investigation into his business.
