It could be argued that he's lucky to be alive.


The Daily Telegraph reports that at precisely 1:13 p.m. (or 13:13), an ambulance in the county of Suffolk in east England attended to a 13-year-old boy that was struck by lightning on Friday 13th.


The unidentified teen was taken to hospital where country ambulance officer Jason Gillingham told the paper, "This was a very minor burn to the boy's shoulder, but he was conveyed to hospital and is recovering well."


The boy was attending an air show put on by the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team in the town of Lowestoft when a thunderstorm suddenly rolled in. Another teen and a woman were also hit by lightning but they did not require hospital treatment.

A Russian doomsday cult sheltering in a bunker say credit cards and food packaging bar codes are satanic, the official negotiating the release of children from the group said on Monday. Around 30 followers, including four children, from across Russia and neighboring Belarus met last October and barricaded themselves into a hillside to escape an apocalypse their preacher says is looming in either April or May. "For us right now, what's most important is the children," said Alexander Yelatontsev, an official from Russia's Penza Oblast region, who has been the chief point of contact for the cult since the siege began. "They have burned their passports and say that all plastic (credit) cards and strip codes on food packaging are the work of Satan," he told reporters. Yelatontsev said the people underground were in contact with him regularly, and would accept food only if it had not been processed with modern factory equipment. "Right now they are asking for a cow so that they can have fresh, boiled milk that is not processed," he said. He said progress was slow but local authorities were negotiating with the group to leave their refuge. "In as much as their beliefs have been formed over a long period of time, convincing them to come out is not going to happen quickly," he said. Local residents said the bunker was a pre-revolutionary convent, with a well, a kitchen and areas for sleeping and praying. On Friday the entrance to the bunker partially collapsed after rain and melting snow soaked the muddy hillside and the ground gave way.

Happens All The Time: Man Cuts Off His Sausage With Saw

A 54-year-old carpenter in Wantage, England, accidentally cut off his own penis while working with a saw, his mother says.
Stuart Keen's mother, Edna, told The Sunday Telegraph her son had been cutting wood for a cabinet when the saw inflicted the horrific injury. Surgeons were able to reattach the severed appendage, she said.
"Stuart is a carpenter and uses sharp and sometimes dangerous tools," Keen's mother said.
"This was an unfortunate accident but these things happen all the time to people in his profession."
A South Central Ambulance Service spokesman said paramedics found him bleeding in his bathtub.

A snaggle-toothed, furry creature with a bald face and a rat’s tale has mystified natives in northern Ontario, but they have a name and a history for it.
“The elders used to see it a long time ago,” the manager of Sam’s Store in Big Trout Lake told the Star on Friday.
“No one has seen one for 40 years or so. The elders have a word for it: omajinaakoos. In English, it means ‘the ugly one’.”
Two Health Canada nurses training at the Kitchenuhmaykoosib Band reserve south of Hudson’s Bay said their dog Sam hauled out the 30-centimetre creature it found in early May floating face down near the causeway on the reserve, band spokesman Darryl Sainnawap told the Star.
“It looks like a mixed breed of an otter and a beaver,” he said. “We’re just as curious as everyone to find out what it is.”

A man whose heart stopped 28 times after a road accident has thanked doctors who saved his life.

Biker Steve Nixon was wired for life with a heart pacemaker after a crash

Motorcyclist Steven Nixon suffered a massive heart attack when he was in collision with a car in Husbands Bosworth, Leicestershire, last year.

Paramedics at the scene revived his heart five times before he was airlifted to University Hospital in Coventry, where a team of cardiologists saved him a further 23 times.

The 44-year-old former warehouse manager also sustained a fractured skull, broken bones in his back, nerve damage and a broken right arm in the collision.

But medics in Coventry were unable to treat his injuries without first stabilising his heart, so he immediately underwent a procedure which involved taking a series of photographs of his heart to pinpoint the problem.

Doctors Chop Off 2 Sides Of Man's Head And Freeze It

A UTAH man had a 90 to 95 percent chance of dying after shattering his skull in more than 10 places until a neurosurgeon removed both sides of his head and froze it.
Kyle Johnson’s brain swelled uncontrollably after he fell off a longboard - essentially a surfboard on wheels - while travelling about 60km/h.
Dr Blake Welling of McKay-Dee Hospital in Utah decided to perform the risky surgery.
“We elected to take Kyle to surgery and remove each side of his head,” Dr Welling told FOXNews.com.
“It’s called a bilateral decompressive craniectomy. It’s something that neurosurgeons do as a last ditch effort.
“Most neurosurgeons do a decompressive craniectomy on one side of the head, where the trauma was.

Boy Blistered After Licking Used Condom, Grandma Says

ATLANTA —  A Georgia woman said a weekend outing turned into a horrifying experience when her young grandson developed blisters after he found a used condom in their hotel room and put it in his mouth, myFOXdfw.com reported.
According to Carmen Jones, the incident happened on Aug. 1 at the Wyndham Gardens hotel in downtown Atlanta, where she had taken the boy and his cousin for a weekend of family fun.
Jones said at first glance room 329 looked perfectly clean, except that there was no soap and no towels.
The next morning, Jones said, she awoke to a horrifying scene.
"When I looked at my grandson, he had a used condom all down his throat — his tongue in it everything. And there was semen in the condom," she said.
Jones immediately took the condom out of the boy's mouth and called hotel management., she said.
Days later the child developed a fever, Jones said.
"That's when I had seen the open blisters inside of his mouth, inside of the bottom lip, all on his tongue," Jones said.
The boy is being tested for STDs and HIV but Jones' attorney said the family is awaiting the results before deciding how to proceed.

Disabled Austrian eaten to death by maggots: Police

VIENNA - A paralyzed Austrian man was eaten to death by maggots in his bed while his partner slept beside him, police said Wednesday.
The 61-year-old retiree died in an ambulance on his way to hospital in Vienna on Tuesday with the maggots having partly devoured his back.
Paramedics notified police after discovering the shocking state of hygiene in the man's home, and his 34-year-old partner was questioned over his condition.
"The man had not wanted to be washed for a long time," a police spokesman said.
According to police, the couple had been together for around a decade, and the victim's partner had slept in the same bed right up until his death.
The dead man had been paralyzed for several years following a stroke.

Two Face Kitten Born

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The kitten born with two faces in Charleston was given a 50 percent chance of survival by an area veterinarian. The kitten known as Two Face brought the animal to the vet shortly after it was born on Wednesday because its mother refused to nurse the kitten. Dr. Erica Drake said the kitten was born with a rare condition called diprosopus, which means the kitten literally has two faces. Two Face has four eyes, two noses and two mouths.
Drake said the kitten's two mouths act independently and she believes each mouth has a separate esophagus leading to one stomach. It'll take a closer look at the kitten's internal anatomy before known about how the kitten will be able to function.
